Matureaccountants was started in 2005 by Chartered Accountant Martin Lloyd-Penny as a result of his personal experience of being over 50 (just) and out of work - as he soon discovered not a good combination!
Martin knew from his years in both industry and the profession that there is no substitute for experience. A "mature" accountant has the depth of knowledge and skills that is vital when steering a company through major periods of change. Whether the change process involves financing growth, acquisitions, rationalisation, saving the company money or more importantly saving the company! But it can also be lonely running a business and many owner managers understand the benefit of working with people who have seen it all before.
Matureaccountants has grown at a dizzying rate thanks largely to Martin's and his business partner Geoff's insistence on the highest standards in all areas of the business.
So the question was - why stop at Accountants as the problem facing older candidates is universal so recognizing this Mature Appointments has been set up to license the technology and know-how for other mature brands.

Ed began his career with leading City firm Ashurst, where he spent 7 years specialising in public and private M&A, UK listed securities, private equity investments and general corporate matters. Between 1996 and 2007, Ed worked for in-house legal departments in both private and public companies across a variety of industries with companies in the telecommunications, upstream oil & gas, lease finance and technology transfer industries where he developed his experience of a wide range of commercial contracts, corporate issues affecting both private and public companies, private equity investment, UK employment law, IP licensing, and dispute resolution.
He has been both company secretary and head of legal at listed companies.
Seeking a change of lifestyle, Ed established his own practice, Faraday's Law, in May 2007. He is now turning his attention to matching businesses that need experienced lawyers with candidates that can deliver that experience. With nearly 20 years experience of the business of law, Ed has plenty of first-hand experience of dealing with the recruitment process both as a candidate and a recruiter.

Bridgeman Art Library recruited their Financial Controller vacancy through Mature Accountants. A difficult role at a time in the company when extensive restructuring and developing is being configured for their whole IT systems and programs. They needed to find someone who would be able to take up the challenge that this poses by contributing in the development of the new systems, whilst keeping in consideration the specialist field and requirements that this digital international library has to contend with.
